Events Media

Dear readers,

The AllaRakha Foundation is completing its 10th year of establishment. We did all this with your support. We help young people and local musicians to get a platform to perform alongside internationally renowned artists to show their talent. We arranged free workshops/events for local youngsters and people alike.

On February 2nd 2000 we lost our loving sister Razia Hussain the shock of this was too much for Abbaji (Ustad Allarakha) and we also lost him that very night. On the 3rd of February two funerals took place in the Allarakha family. We were all in disbelief and shock over the loss of two family members. We are now approaching the dates of the same dark days again and this year we have added sorrow with the loss of our mother Bavi Begum Allarakha. May their souls rest in peace and may God give us strength to get over the loss which we have suffered. In Mumbai February 2nd and 3rd we will mourn with our friends and disciples of my father Ustad Allarakha and Mumbai people for the memorial of our beloved family.

Ameen
Khurshid Aulia (Daughter of Ustad and Begum Allarakha)

We are saddened by the news of Pt. Dinkar Kaikani’s demise on the 23/01/2010 in Mumbai, at his residence 10 AM. He was a classical singer and for many years, he was the Principal of Cultural Institute Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan in Mumbai.

He was loved by all the students and musicians alike. His son Yogesh Samsi became disciple of Ustad AllaRakha at a very young age under his father’s encouragement.

The AllaRakha Foundation and family pay their respects, extend condolences and sympathy to Kaikaniji’s family especially Mrs. Kaikani. May his soul rest in peace! Om Shanti!!!

The AllaRakha Foundation and the Family announces the demise of Mrs Bavi Begum, widow of Tabla Legend Ustad AllaRakha and mother of Zakir Hussain, Taufiq Qureshi, Fazal Qureshi, and Khurshid Aulia on the 24th of October 2009 in Mumbai, India. The funeral took place in Mumbai on the 28th of Oct, 09. She is survived by one daughter, three sons and 11 grandchildren. The Chehlum was held on the 2nd of December 2009 in Mumbai.

Ammaji (Mrs Bavi Begum)

Bavi Begum was known as Ammaji to all whose lives she touched -- and there were many. "Despite coming from a very simple background, she was extremely farsighted and gave her children the best, most importantly, the self-confidence to be independent. While her husband Ustad Alla Rakha Khan travelled for concerts, it was Ammaji who held fort with the children (three sons -- Zakir Hussain, Taufiq Qureshi, Fazal Qureshi, and a daughter -- Khurshid Aulia). Her generosity was extended even to students who came to study with Abbaji and later with Zakir. She leaves behind a large extended family, much beyond her own," says a close associate of Ammaji.

The AllaRakha Foundation and the Family would like to pay homage to the passing away of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan on the 18th of June 2009. Ustad Ali Akbar Khan was the world's leading exponent of the 25 stringed instrument called sarod. He will be greatly missed by us all.
